A few things about the difference between root beer and orange soda.

This whole thing began a few months ago when one of our community members, boldly claimed that the Meijer brand orange soda was the best orange soda.

A few weeks of debate lead to the blind taste-testing of all 6 of the brands of orange soda that we could get at our closest Meijer. With about 12 votes, we determined undeniably that Faygo was the best orange soda. (Obviously!) Everyone also seemed to agree that there was a clear flavor difference happening with each of our orangey drinks.

We only had one real takeaway from our first social experiment - sugar-free orange soda is undrinkable for almost everyone, and ice cream makes all orange soda taste better.

This week we hosted our second blind taste testing soda social and the 12 of us determined that, for these midwesterners, Faygo root beer is the preferred root beer of the 7 we found at Meijer, but barely. There wasn’t really a clear difference in the flavors, or preference between them. Weird. Several coworkers, did notice how much carbonation mattered when it came to root beer. The fizz matters in root beer. But the main lesson of the day was clear, sugar-free root beer is undrinkable for almost everyone.

After drinking 7 single servings of root beer, we all needed a little Vernors, which posed a very serious and new question, who makes the best ginger-ale?
